An existing top floor loft with an enclosed stair to a private roof deck. The existing stair has a sloped roof and small landing providing access to the deck. The proposal is to appropriate a portion of the deck and enlarge the enclosure to provide a studio space. The rear wall facing south abuts the common area of the 14 unit building. The north facing facade provides access to the deck and also allows light to filter down into the space below through the stair opening. In order to provide as much glazing as possible on each facade we proposed a butterly roof that slopes to the center. The center gutter will slope to one side and into a rain water retention system.
